Edinburg- Leadership Edinburg Class XXVIII recently completed their Education Seminar. The Class visited Francisco Barrientes Middle School on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. The class was welcomed by Principal Robert Lopez and Sgt. Francisco Barrientes.
The session offered insights and knowledge on the different avenues of education that impact our community and the Rio Grande Valley. The session agenda included a presentation and discussion from Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, South Texas Independent School District, Hidalgo County Head Start and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Class XXVIII also had lunch with students, toured the campus and completed class room observations.
Speakers included Eva Torres – ECISD Asst. Superintendant of Academics and Curriculum, Ellie Torres- ECISD School Board Member, Mike Farias- ECISD School Board Member, Carmen Gonzalez- ECISD School Board Member, Veronica de la Garza- UTRGV Director of State and Local Government Relations, Amanda Odom – BETA Schools, Dr. Nora Casarez- Beta Principal and Teresa Flores – Hidalgo County Head Start Executive Director. The session was very informative, energetic and the Edinburg Leadership class members enjoyed spending time and learning more about education and our youth.
Leadership Edinburg is a program designed by the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce to allow the class members to interact with one another and members of the community to encourage a better Edinburg. The nine month program is structured to help class members understand the problems and opportunities we face through strong leadership skills focusing on politics, history, education, healthcare and quality of life.
